Kampot & Kep Private Chauffeur — Cambodia's Quietest Coast, Without Compromise

May 13, 2026 · 8 min read · FFGR Cambodia VIP Team

Kampot pepper, colonial river houses, and a shoreline with no resort towers in sight. Kep crab shacks that take reservations from embassies. These two southern towns sit three hours from Phnom Penh on a road that rewards those who arrive by private vehicle. FFGR Cambodia's private chauffeur service for the Kampot–Kep corridor was built for clients who understand that the journey south from PNH is as important as the destination itself.

Phnom Penh to Kampot — The Riverside Road

The highway from Phnom Penh to Kampot follows the Mekong south before cutting inland through pepper plantations. In a standard hire car, this road is three hours of white-knuckle overtaking. In an FFGR Mercedes V-Class with your senior chauffeur navigating via a pre-planned route that avoids the heaviest freight sections, it is a landscape introduction to southern Cambodia at 90 kilometres per hour.

We schedule departures from Phnom Penh for 06:30 when the city is quiet and the light on the Mekong turns amber. By the time the heat rises at noon, our clients are checked in at The Plantation or Shinta Mani Wild's Kampot outpost, with the afternoon free for the river.

Kampot Town — Access Without the Hunt

Kampot's old French quarter was not designed for vehicles. The narrow streets, the riverside boardwalk, the pepper garden estates outside town — each requires a different vehicle approach. Our chauffeurs know which streets are passable in a V-Class, which estates offer parking, and how to position the vehicle for a same-hour departure when you're ready to leave.

For clients visiting Kampot Pepper estates — La Plantation, Starling Farm — we coordinate with estate management in advance to ensure a private tour rather than a group slot. Your arrival is expected. Your time is structured around your preferences, not a group itinerary.

Kep — The Crab Market and the Old Villas

Kep was Phnom Penh's answer to the Côte d'Azur before 1970. The empty shells of modernist villas still stand above the waterline. Kep Beach is quiet on weekday mornings. The crab market, where fishermen sell directly from boats tied to the pier, opens before sunrise. FFGR Cambodia schedules Kep arrivals for 07:00, before the day-trippers from Kampot fill the crab stalls.

We have arrangements with the two finest crab restaurants in Kep for reserved tables regardless of season. Post-lunch, the drive to Rabbit Island's private boat transfer or the road back toward Kampot through the Bokor Mountain switchbacks — both are part of a pre-designed itinerary, adjusted on the day for weather and preference.

Bokor Mountain — The Ghost Station

Bokor National Park rises to 1,080 metres above Kampot and houses the most dramatic colonial ruins in Southeast Asia — an abandoned casino, a church, and a hill station that once housed the French Governor's residence. The road to the summit requires a chauffeur experienced in mountain driving. The view from the top, on a clear morning before the cloud builds, reaches to the Gulf of Thailand.

FFGR Cambodia includes a Bokor Mountain circuit as a half-day option on all Kampot itineraries. We depart at 06:30, reach the summit by 08:00 before the mist returns, and descend in time for a late breakfast at the hotel. This window exists for approximately two hours each morning. We plan around it.

Koh Tonsay — Private Boat Coordination

Rabbit Island, twenty minutes by longtail from Kep's fishing pier, has no electricity, no paved roads, and no motor vehicles. What it has is white sand, hammocks strung between palms, and the clearest water on the Cambodian coast. For FFGR Cambodia clients, we pre-arrange a private longtail boat at the pier to eliminate the group boat queue. Arrival is before 09:00. The island is yours before the day visitors arrive.

Return timing is flexible. Your chauffeur waits at the pier — we do not operate on scheduled departure windows. When you are ready to leave the island, a call to your chauffeur is all that is required. The vehicle is ready.

Overnights and Multi-Day Itineraries

The Kampot–Kep circuit rewards one or two nights. Our standard itinerary covers: Day 1 PNH–Kampot transfer + pepper estate tour + riverside dinner. Day 2 Kep crab market breakfast + Rabbit Island + Bokor Mountain sunset. Day 3 return to PNH or direct transfer to Sihanoukville for onward connection. All accommodation is pre-selected: The Plantation, Shinta Mani Wild Kampot, or Knai Bang Chatt in Kep.

For clients connecting onward to the airport, we schedule the Kampot–PNH return to account for terminal connection times and build in a 30-minute buffer at PNH for international check-in. Luggage transferred directly from hotel to vehicle to aircraft hold.
